Mini Grilled Cheese Hearts (Print Version)

Adorable heart-shaped grilled cheese bites, ideal for snacks or party appetizers.

# What You'll Need:

→ Bread

01 - 6 slices soft white or whole wheat sandwich bread

→ Cheese

02 - 6 slices cheddar, American, or melting cheese

→ Butter

03 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

# How-To Steps:

01 - Using a small heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out two hearts from each bread slice to create 12 bread hearts. Repeat with cheese slices to create 12 cheese hearts.
02 - Place one cheese heart between two bread hearts, creating 12 mini sandwiches.
03 - Spread a thin layer of softened butter on the outside of each sandwich.
04 - Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place sandwiches buttered side down and cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted and bread is crisp.
05 - Serve warm while cheese is still melted.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • These disappear faster than regular grilled cheese because everything cute tastes better somehow
  • The butter to bread ratio reaches perfection in this smaller form
02 -
  • The first batch I made stuck to the pan because I skipped buttering one side lesson learned
  • Smaller cutters mean shorter cooking times so watch them closer than full sized sandwiches
03 -
  • Save the bread scraps and cheese trimmings to bake into croutons or bread pudding
  • A cast iron skillet creates the most even browning if you have one available
