Red White Blue Ice Cubes (Print Version)

Layered red, white and blue ice cubes with blueberries, coconut and strawberries for festive drinks.

# What You'll Need:

→ Fruit

01 - 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
02 - 1/2 cup strawberries, hulled and chopped
03 - 1/2 cup fresh coconut meat or unsweetened shredded coconut

→ Liquids

04 - 1 cup coconut water
05 - 1 cup natural blueberry juice
06 - 1 cup natural strawberry juice or natural cranberry juice

# How-To Steps:

01 - Rinse and dry blueberries. Hull and dice strawberries. If using whole coconut, slice meat into small pieces.
02 - Fill each ice cube compartment one-third with blueberries, then pour blueberry juice just to cover them. Freeze for about 1 hour until completely solid.
03 - Distribute coconut meat or sprinkle shredded coconut over the frozen blue layer. Pour coconut water into each compartment to fill an additional third. Return tray to freezer for another hour until firm.
04 - Top each compartment with chopped strawberries, then fill to the top with strawberry or cranberry juice. Freeze for at least 2 more hours until cubes are fully solid.
05 - Gently remove ice cubes from tray. Add to beverages such as lemonade, sparkling water, or cocktails for colorful presentation.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • It turns even plain sparkling water into something guests will whisper about all summer.
  • You can use whatever red or blue fruits you have, so each batch is a little bit surprising.
02 -
  • If you rush the freezing at each layer, colors will blend instead of staying crisp.
  • Adding just a tiny bit too much juice can cause cubes to stick, so pour with a steady hand.
03 -
  • Use cold juice for faster freezing and less melting between layers.
  • For parties, freeze edible flowers in a few cubes as a surprise twist.
